Ground Reaction Forces during Stair Ascent in Pregnant Fallers and Non-fallers
نویسندگان
چکیده
Falls are a significant risk factor during pregnancy, as over 27% of women fall while pregnant [1, 2]. Falls are a leading cause of trauma-related hospital admissions during pregnancy [3]. Approximately 40% of the falls happen during stair locomotion [1, 2]. Additionally, evidence indicates that pregnant women who fall may have altered neuromuscular control compared to pregnant non-fallers and nonpregnant controls [4, 6].

Kinematic differences exist between transtibial amputee fallers and non-fallers during downwards step transitioning.
BACKGROUND Stair negotiation is biomechanically more challenging than level gait. There are few biomechanical assessments of transtibial amputees descending stairs and none specifically related to falls. Stair descent may elicit more differences than level gait in amputees with and without a previous falls history. OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to compare the gait kinematics of fallers...
متن کاملThe comparative ability of eight functional mobility tests for predicting falls in community-dwelling older people.
BACKGROUND numerous tests have been suggested as fall risk indicators. However, the validity of these assessments has not been demonstrated in large representative samples of community-dwelling older people. OBJECTIVE the objective of this study was to examine the comparative ability and clinical utility of eight mobility tests for predicting multiple falls in older community-dwelling people....
متن کاملWhole-body angular momentum during stair ascent and descent.
The generation of whole-body angular momentum is essential in many locomotor tasks and must be regulated in order to maintain dynamic balance. However, angular momentum has not been investigated during stair walking, which is an activity that presents a biomechanical challenge for balance-impaired populations. We investigated three-dimensional whole-body angular momentum during stair ascent and...

متن کاملGround reaction forces on stairs: effects of stair inclination and age.
The goals of the study were to compare data of vertical ground reaction force (GRF) parameters during level walking, stair ascent and descent on three different stair inclinations and three different age groups. Twenty healthy subjects of three age groups (young 33.7 years; middle 63.6 years; old 76.5 years) were tested during the seven test conditions with 8-10 repetitions. Vertical forces wer...
